With Very Special Guest...

In 2021, I was a guest on the Recovering Evangelicals podcast, talking about why I had left the church and why I was now involved with organising Sunday Assembly.

As the hosts (very nice chaps, by the way) point out, it's really all about community. My personal belief is that a lot of churches stay together more from a need to have a group that supports each other and provides a place to find friends, rather than necessarily a strong faith in god.

We also talk about the challenges faced by communities, religious or otherwise, particularly after the pandemic affected attendance.

Wilderness Festival

Sunday Assembly has been to Wilderness Festival a few times. In 2015 and 2016, we had a marquee full of speakers, workshops and music.

In 2021, we held a mass wedding celebration for a load of couples whose nuptials had been cut short by the pandemic. Not at all legally binding, of course.

In 2022, we celebrated the meaning of dance and how it can bring people together, obviously via the means of cheesy pop songs. Here's the video (it doesn't keep pointing at our backs all the way through...

Sunday Assembly 10th Anniversary

In January 2023, Sunday Assembly celebrated its tenth anniversary. This was probably more of a surprise to its founders, Pippa Evans and Sanderson Jones, than anybody else. Who would have expected that an event that nicks all the best bits from churches but doesn't have any religious trappings would last quite so long?

In 2018, the fifth anniversary was hosted by Rufus Hound, who was very nice about sweeping up the debris from the confetti cannons afterwards. In 2023, it was down to me, even though I've been on very, very few TV panel shows. We did have a magician though! No confetti cannons, mind you.
