Profile

I'm a product manager with over 20 years of global experience developing B2B and B2C software projects using both Agile and traditional frameworks. I'm interested in roles working on products that make the world a better place.

Coming from a strong technical background, I can work equally well with development teams, UI/UX designers, customers, board members and other stakeholders.

Experience

2014-Present, Product Manager, IGT, London, UK

Responsible for several components of a leading online gaming platform, I work with customers and internal stakeholders to build the product roadmap and create user stories, taking features through from conception to release. I carry out marketing demonstrations and workshops for clients across Europe and Asia and led the localisation of the product into Chinese.

2011-2014, Mobile Product Manager, Perform, London, UK

As the product manager for all consumer mobile sports applications in the UK and Scandinavia region, I was responsible for creating the product roadmap, workshopping, customer management, and taking the products through the development process to release, support and maintenance.

Using Agile methodologies, I worked with clients to develop requirements and establish costing, and then worked with the UX, programming (internal and third party) and QA teams to deliver a finished product to the market. Following release, I tracked financials and analytics to suggest potential improvements and to develop strategy. During my period in this role, user numbers and revenue both increased by over 30% year on year.

Focusing primarily on native iOS and Android applications, the apps delivered secure live and on-demand video along with editorial and statistical content, integrating with various content management systems using technologies such as HTTP Live Streaming, XML and Amazon Web Services.

My clients included Chelsea FC, Celtic, Tennis TV and the Norwegian Premier Football League.

2008-2011, Video On Demand Projects, Perform, London, UK

My main role in this position was to design and create a workflow system that took source video files created on AVIDS workstations through the transcoding process and then passed the resulting encoded files to cloud storage or directly to client file systems. The main user interface was created in Java Swing, with messaging between the hardware components sent as XML over HTTP.

2002-2008, Analyst Developer, Cyborg Systems, Chicago, USA

I was the project lead for the Interactive Workforce product, an intranet based application built with JSP on the ServletExec web application server, connecting to Cyborg's legacy COBOL payroll/HR back end. Along with developing the core system, I was heavily involved with the bespoke customization life cycle. As such, I was the main point of contact for the offshore programming team in India, defining the requirements for software development.

1999-2002, Analyst Developer, Cyborg Systems, London, UK / Madrid, Spain

As senior developer, I was responsible for integrating the Cyborg payroll product with Meta4’s employee self-service application using JSP, with regular board level update meetings in Spanish. After the base product was completed, my focus was to meet with clients across the UK to determine their customisation requirements and create the functional and technical requirements documentation for the development teams.

1998-1999, Analyst Developer, Cyborg Systems, Singapore / Hong Kong

Based in Singapore, I was the senior developer in the Asia-Pacific region, in this case mainly using Cyborg’s own bespoke languages. I also taught programming courses in Hong Kong, Singapore, India and the Philippines. Clients included blue-chip companies such as Siemens and Barclays Capital.

1996-1999, Product Specialist, Cyborg Systems, London, UK

My position as Product Specialist was to provide technical and programming support to the help desk in the event of a critical system failure. I also developed software tools for debugging problems and taught training courses around the UK. Clients included local government authorities, financial institutions and airlines.

Education

1992–1996: BSc Computing Science, University of Greenwich, London

Other Information

I like to travel, usually by train and bicycle, and learn new languages. I do quite a bit of public speaking and compering, usually about rather nerdy subjects, as well as doing football commentary for the blind and partially sighted.
